We regularly welcome and provide accommodation for educational groups and events at all levels from first and primary schools on activity breaks from High Schools, University groups and the U3A, studying specialist subjects such as the Natural Environment, Geology, Geography, Archaeology, and Christian Heritage.

We are a completely safe and secure venue, and our three star hostel rating has full disability access throughout due to being all on one level. 
 
Please note we are not a suitable venue for Stag/Hen or rowdy parties. 

We also welcome many event companies to the hostel who hire the place in its entirety. The Chevy Chase 20 mile fell race has been held from the hostel for many years during it’s 64 year history.

Whether it’s Duke of Edinburgh, Brownies or Guides, Girls or Boys Brigade, Cubs or Scouts, Wooler Hostel caters for all! Serving large groups or small, Wooler Youth Hostel remains the perfect venue to provide accommodation, food and local amenities to suit all groups within a great ‘value for money’ budget. We also have limited space for camping (2-3 man tents only)

history and Archaeology

Walk out of Wooler and step into history with some of the most important archaeological sites in Britain. Take your time and see 5000 years of history all situated a stone’s throw from the Wooler Youth Hostel site.
The area of Wooler houses some of the most key accessible sites for archaeology. Each of which are easily reachable and can be utilised by study groups, trips and keen archaeologists alike.
From prehistoric cup & ring motifs carved into sandstone outcrops, henges and numerous strategically sited hillforts including the site of the palace of the ancient kings of Northumbria – Ad Gefrin, you can go on to visit one of Britain’s most important battle sites – Flodden field.
Ancient castle, pele towers and bridges dot the land from the coast to the hills…..

EXploring Geography at Wooler

Wooler provides a perfect location to explore a wide range of geographical topics right from Key Stage 1 through to university study and beyond. unique place on the edge of an upland landscape next to the Cheviot volcanic complex, yet only separated by a short strip of lowland agricultural landscape from one of the best examples of coastal landscape in the country.

During the year we host many events. For example on the first Saturday of July every year the hugely popular Chevy Chase Fell Race is held from the hostel.
Other events include
Trail Outlaws Wooler Half Marathon and full marathon which is held in the Autumn. 

Talks and presentations

Over the past couple of years we have invited guests to come and give talks on subjects from aviation history to local archaeology and from weather forecasting to epic adventures in Himalayan mountains. If you have been involved in an fantastic adventure or you have just something to say and you think others would like to hear, let us know and we may be able to put your name up in lights!

cycling groups

Next to walking groups , Cycling Groups are our most popular activity group. With so many routes to choose from its easy to see why people decided to base themselves at the hostel. From Mountain Biking to road cycling we have trails to suit all, straight from the door. For example the Sandstone Way which has been designed for mountain bikers and being braided for selected sections, will appeal to all abilities. It uses a mix of existing rights of way of varies surfaces and widths interlinked by the minimum amount of quiet roads possible. Another popular route from the creators of the Sandstone way is the Cheviot Orbital. For more info on this , read Barry Kemps Blog

If you are a group of any type and would like to stay with us, you can either hire the place exclusively or if you are a smaller group (10-20 people booked at the same time by the same person (group leader)) you will receive at 15% discount on normal prices. (Please see Terms and conditions) *Please note Group hire which is different to private hire this means sharing with others staying at the hostel.

Meals are available to book in advance for groups (breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal)
